The Mleziva Martini, and More Ways I Love to See State Line Spirits
It’s well-known around the Distillery that one of my favorite cocktails to enjoy is a gin martini served on the rocks with a twist of lemon. Over the years, my staff has learned to ask if I would rather have a proper martini or a ‘Mleziva Martini’—the difference being the amount of vermouth, or lack thereof, in a Mleziva martini compared to a traditionally prepared one. Since opening State Line and working with our talented Bar Manager & Spirit Ambassador, Mike McDonald, I have come to appreciate the balance of the State Line martini; but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the ‘wave the bottle of vermouth over the drink’ type of martini my dad introduced me to years ago.
To me, seeing the different ways people enjoy State Line spirits out in the world is part of the fun of being in this business. One of things I always talk about when I’m giving a tour is that there isn’t a right or wrong way to enjoy our spirits. Don’t get me wrong, I do also love talking about and digging into the principles around what makes a balanced cocktail and why they taste so good (future blog post alert!), but in the end, I’m most concerned that people enjoy State Line spirits in a way that best suits them.
We love to nerd out about crafting the best spirits and creating delicious cocktails for you all to enjoy in the cocktail lounge — speaking of, if you haven’t voted for State Line for Best Distillery in Madison there is still time to nominate us by clicking HERE — but equally as fun, is visiting places like Sardine, The Ready Set, or Mint Mark to experience their take on various craft cocktails featuring State Line spirits.
As we move into Spring, I would encourage you to take some time to get out and experience the high level of creativity that is being put forth by talented bar staff all around the city. You’ll not only get to enjoy a range of delicious cocktails, you’ll be supporting all the businesses that make Madison the place we love to call home.
See you at State Line!
Cheers,
John
